Teaching

Guitarist/Composer Jamie Ruben

Jamie RubenI have a formal musical education and years of experience performing around the globe.

In my years as a musician I have had the pleasure of getting to teach a wide range of musicians, young and old, from beginners to advanced performers. I teach guitar (Rock, Pop, Classical, Funk, Jazz, Blues, Reggae, alternative and whatever else you may be interested in) composition, song-writing, theory and band workshops privately and in groups.

While learning music involves discipline and perseverance, my approach to teaching stresses the joy and fun of playing music at very early levels of the learning process. Practicing and learning music should be creative and exciting. Not only does this make music education more gratifying, but it makes it more effective.

I design strategies for each of my students based on their musical tastes, age, level and most importantly what they want to get out of playing music and what aspects of playing music bring them joy. While some students want to learn guitar as a way of channeling their favorite rock/pop songs others feel driven delve into the art of improvisation. Some find song-writing to be a great outlet of inspiration.

Whatever a student's level of expertise and wherever a student's inspiration lies, I am confident that I can help you expand your skills and find great joy from playing, writing and learning about music.
